Survival

Authors Note: This theme piece is about Katniss Everdeen- and her survival. Pretty much about how she has to fight to stay alive.

When Katniss has been chosen for the Hunger Games, (a place where children have to fight to the death) she has to know that she will most likely lose. She has survived most of her poor life with her bow, which she is very good at shooting. She has survived her whole life, so why not now?

After starting the Hunger Games, she is prepared, and will hopefully get her hands on the only bow. She runs through the thick brush to stay away from everyone. Camping in a tree for a while, she wants to move around. Getting to the river, she encounters the careers, the strongest and fastest of them all—or so they had thought.

Katniss has to run up a big tree, and gets stuck there for a night. To live she had to find a way to get out, so Rue (a 11 year old tribute) points her to a Tracker Jacket nest. Trackers are genetically engineered hornets that will kill you after multiple stings, and cause swelling. So Katniss saws of the branch that are holding them onto the Careers, and kills the girl with the bow.

Later, Katniss survives with Peeta until there’s only one person left other than them. The mutated dogs came and were vicious, so the pair of them had to retreat to the cornucopia and get on top of it to survive. The last contestant sneaks up behind them, and manages to get Peeta in a headlock. Tapping Cato’s hand, Katniss shoots him there, and he lets go of Peeta, and falls down to await his fate with the dogs.

Because two people won, the rules changed. Then only one person could win. Because they both wanted to win, Katniss and Peeta almost committed suicide. And then they were saved by another change in rules. Katniss was able to survive no--matter what.

Gold Hook

Authors Note: I have wrote about this story before, and this time I want to put myself in the point of view of the old man with the Golden Hook.

Losing his arm that day was tragic, but the little boy was able to get a hook, but then later ended up getting a solid gold, hook going halfway up his arm. At first the man had trouble trying to cope with his arm gone, and having a heavy gold arm. It helped because he worked outside a lot with wood.

While he was going to town that day to get supplies, he noticed everyone staring at him, and pointing. No one could believe he had a gold hook! He felt proud of himself, and felt good inside. He went into the store, and feeling good he god an apple for himself, along with oil and grain and other food items.

While he was living, he was getting weaker, and getting older. He noticed changes in himself, so he had to find someone to trust. Now that he has someone drop his food off instead of going into town because people have tried to rob him-tried. The young man that dropped his food off, that’s who he can trust.

Meeting him the next day, the old man asked the boy to make him a promise. The boy promised to bury the man with his golden hook. After he promised, he thought about it until he went to the man’s house, he was about to die. The man had begun to trust the boy, and died with happiness, and went to heaven--only to witness that the boy kept the hook.

Changing

Authors Note: This is about Katniss Everdeen, going from nothing, to being everything. Also describing SOME of the main events in detail and how they changed Katniss.

Going to the Reaping, Katniss was worried for herself, and her friend Gale more than anything; not thinking about her sister. With the Reaping started, the girls go first, and Katniss’ sister-somehow manages to be picked. Not wanting her sister to go to the Hunger Games, Katniss has to volunteer. Her action shows courage, something known in her, just not helping other people.

Starting her training, she shows support of the other person from her district, Peeta. She does well, and even manages to have some fun, which she never has. On the day of grading, she shows another new characteristic not normally used, Bravery. She shot an arrow at the game makers, which could get her tortured, then killed-but she didn’t care.

At the end of the games, Katniss had to take a chance of life or death. Katniss and Peeta had berries called Nightlock that will kill you within 20 seconds of eating. Eating these took determination to get out of the games with none, or both of them alive. By doing this she proved herself to many which is another way she changed from before.

This is like the character Cole, from Touching Spirit Bear. When Cole has a near-death experience, he sees the beauty of life and changes his ways to become a better person. Fighting to save her life, and becoming a better person helped Katniss survive-along with her excellent marksmanship.

America

Authors Note: The life of Benjamin Martin is one like Adam Cooper, loss. This describes the good parts of life, and the bad parts of life that Adam Cooper from April Morning, and Benjamin Martin from The Patriot.

Benjamin Martin and Adam Cooper are a lot alike-by being so different. Benjamin Martin was a General-and helped win the French-Indian war. Adam Cooper was a 15 year old boy living in Lexington. When they both are faced with all of the taxes and the King in England-they both have to put up a fight for their lives, and experience losses.

Adam Cooper’s Family wasn’t very rich-and he wasn’t very rich. Benjamin Martin on the other hand- had good land, and a good house. With Adam-he was always fighting with his whole family, except Granny Cooper. Benjamin martin had good family-so they were both very different and both had troubles along the way, like with Benjamin almost dying- and his two sons out of seven dying.

The way that they’re so much alike, is because they both have to fight the British in two epic battles, in which one wins-and one loses. The battle with Adam. The battle took in Lexington and about 70 people of the town met the British to have a peace treaty. A shot is fired-lighting a spark, like the spark igniting Benjamin’s will to fight against the British after they kill his sons. Ad father, Jonas, Sam, and others are killed.

In my opinion, Benjamin Martin represented America itself during that battle. We are strong-and so was he, we are brave and smart-so was he. This describes how America is, and will thrive, because we have a plan.

Ghosts?

Authors Note: The fact that a lot of people made their prediction pieces about Cody getting haunted, I wanted to do something different. In reality, nothing would happen to you. You might always have to think about what you did, but that’s it, no Ghosts J.

The hook lay on the cold floor beside Cody, ready to be transformed. Cody picks up the hook and places it carefully, ready to be melted on his makeshift stove. Taking his time and paying attention, the hook starts melting. Once the deed is done, the melted gold is put into the mold of a bar. Happy with the gold, he gets ready for the next day--to get out of town.
Gathering his personal items, and taking all the wood from his house and ready to go, he heads off on his rusted car. Riding  to a brand new, big city, Cody is feeling good, and waiting to become rich. Heading to a new great life he thought of what he could get with his gold bar, he wonders if he could have a family, a wife? Children? He wondered.
After renting an apartment, Cody wants a job, only because he believes if he doesn't, he'll wind up broke either way. With him thinking about the hook, he was feeling guilty about it. But he thought if he was that man with the hook, if they switched places, would he have done the same thing? For now on Cody keeps the thought out of his mind, and has a family, and a house.

Adventure Awaits!

Authors Note: For the assignment of theme I chose adventure from The Legend Of Drizzt. It’s a 22 book series and I’m writing about the third book and the theme is Action/Adventure.

After Drizzt has been above ground for about a week, his eyes are having trouble adjusting. And he has to find food. Wandering around he manages to get a turkey to eat. After eating his first animal from the surface he sets up camp for the night until he was raided by Trolls. Once they attacked he grabbed his swords and took down one, then three and the rest surrendered. But they gave him an offer.

Drizzt’s new friends were the trolls who knew how to gather food. The groups scouts have found a good place to raid, and Drizzt went along with it. Arriving at a farm Drizzt didn’t realize what he was about to do. To save the kids and the people at the farm he had to eliminate the rest of the trolls. After watching over the farmers, Drizzt leaves for a day and when he comes back, there were goblins attacking-but he was too late and everyone was dead.

Seeking the leader of the goblins that killed everyone, Drizzt got caught while trying to scout the camp where the goblins are. An unexpected help comes from an owl, because whenever he hooted above an enemy an arrow would hit that enemy. After finding the unexpected help from an old blind man who referred to himself as “Mooney”.

Mooney taught Drizzt to fight even better than he already can. Also helping him eliminate goblins from the band that killed the family at the farm. The leaders of the group located Mooney’s tree house hideout, they decided to attack. All the while the past 10 years of Mooney’s life he has been getting prepared for the big attack from the Goblins.

Drizzt and Mooney, with the help of about 20 others, killed 3,000 Goblins. The day after the battle, when Drizzt woke up he saw Mooney still sleeping, but he was dead. Departing from the place Drizzt almost called home, he had to find a new place where he could find a friend. But because he is a Dark Elf, he is considered Evil to almost every race.

Through all of Drizzt’s adventures he will always have a battle, because he cannot be trusted because of what he is-a Dark Elf. The adventures are where he goes, and he always is helping anyone he can to try to change his image to other people.
